นายสารัชต์ รัตนาภรณ์ ผู้จัดการใหญ่ ธนาคารไทยพาณิชย์ จำกัด (มหาชน) หรือ SCB เปิดเผยว่า จากวิกฤตการณ์ โควิด-19 ส่งผลกระทบต่อเศรษฐกิจของประเทศไทยเป็นอย่างมาก หลายบริษัทต้องปิดตัวลง มีการปลดพนักงาน หรือบางแห่งก็ไม่รับพนักงานเพิ่ม ทำให้ยอดอัตราการว่างงานเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างก้าวกระโดด โดยข้อมูลจากศูนย์วิจัยเศรษฐกิจและธุรกิจ (SCB EIC) ระบุว่าผลกระทบที่รุนแรงของโควิด-19 ต่อเศรษฐกิจ นำไปสู่การว่างงานที่สูงที่สุดนับตั้งแต่วิกฤติการเงินโลกของตลาดแรงงานไทย โดยจำนวนผู้ว่างงาน ณ ไตรมาส 2 ของปี 2563 อยู่ที่ 7.5 แสนคน จากกำลังแรงงานทั้งหมด 38.2 ล้านคน
